1. What are the benefits of signing up with Commerce Energy? You will receive lower costs and first-class customer service. When you select Commerce Energy's fixed-rate product, you will lock in a known price and take the worry out of energy costs. The variable-rate product offers you our lowest price available at the time.
TOP 2. How much will I pay for natural gas or electricity with Commerce Energy? That depends on where you are located. Competitive offers are available for each utility area we serve. For more details and to enroll, click here.
TOP 3. Will I receive two separate bills, one for delivery and one for energy? In most cases, you will continue to receive one bill from your utility – with delivery charges and energy costs listed separately. In this case, you will simply continue paying the single bill. In a small number of cases, you may receive two separate bills – one from your utility for delivery charges and one from Commerce Energy for your energy costs.
TOP 4. Will the utility continue to deliver and maintain the pipes and wires to my location? Yes, your natural gas or electricity will be delivered the same it has always been. Your utility will continue to maintain the energy delivery systems (pipes and wires) and repair them if needed.
TOP 5. Is a contract required for a fixed price product? Yes, in order for Commerce Energy to guarantee a fixed price for a set period of time, you need to agree to be a customer for that time period.
TOP 6. Is there a cancellation fee? There is no cancellation fee for a variable-price product. There is one for fixed-rate products, should you cancel before the agreed-upon time period.
TOP 7. What happens at the end of a fixed-rate agreement? At the end of the agreement, you will continue to be served by Commerce Energy on a month-to-month, variable-rate basis. You may reenroll in another fixed-rate program at the current rates.
TOP 8. What happens if I move? If you move within the same utility territory, service with Commerce Energy will continue under the agreement that is already in place. If you move beyond your utility area, you will pay an Early Termination Fee.
TOP 9. I'm only getting one service from Commerce Energy – either only natural gas or only electric. Can I sign up for both energy services? Click here to see if both services are available. Then, check the dropdown menu on the Home page to see if the services are being marketed to residential and small business customers. Click on the Commercial & Industrial dropdown for information regarding larger businesses. If Commerce Energy is offering both energy services in your market area, we'd be pleased to serve your energy needs.
TOP 10. Will the service level from the utility be reduced when I switch to Commerce Energy or another Alternative Energy Supplier? No, your service level will not be affected. Your utility is responsible, by law, for providing safe and reliable energy delivery, transmission and distribution services.
TOP 11. If I switch back to the utility, are there any rules or penalties? Yes, each utility handles switching differently. If you choose to return to the utility, there are specific reporting requirements which must be met. For specific information about your utility area, a Commerce Energy Customer Service representative can help you.
TOP 12. Will the utility charge me more for "other services" if I change suppliers? No, the utility cannot increase any charges based on your selection of another energy supplier.
TOP 13. Does the rate include transmission and distribution fees? It may, depending on your utility market. This fee is clearly indicated on the 'offer
page' along with the rate. This page is dynamically generated by the database based
upon state, customer type, utility market, and product selected.
TOP 14. Once I enroll with Commerce Energy, how long does it take for service to change over? It takes one or two billing cycles, depending on the utility's meter-reading cycle.
TOP 15. How do I know that I've been switched to Commerce Energy? You will receive a "Welcome Kit" from Commerce Energy, confirming the switch. You will also receive notification from the utility.
