What is Base Load Service?
Base Load Service allows Commerce Energy to purchase electricity and/or natural gas in a predictable manner
and pass the savings on to you. The service is similar to our Full-Service, Fixed-Price product, but with Base
Load Service you commit to consumption parameters. It allows those with relatively flat or predicable usage to
take advantage of load-shape stability by contracting for the Full-Service, Fixed-Price product on just the base
portion of their usage. To provide flexibility, you get a fixed-rate on the bandwidth around the base load.
How is the price calculated?
Base Load pricing consists of two components, the fixed price for the base load usage within the bandwidth
and the daily market rate for the usage outside the bandwidth. You select the base volume for the Fixed-Price
portion of the service, which can consist of different base volumes for different months.
Any consumption above the upper threshold or below the lower threshold is bought or sold at daily index
rates and applied to your account.
